Dreary day to be driving

May 8, 2012

We are somewhere along Mass Pike at a gas and convenience store that is technically on the freeway (no toll to stop here, kind of like drive through gas).

It is rainy but only lightly. I don’t know if we’ll reach Cleveland today but that is the goal. C is glad this long stretch is through trees and not the desert. I miss wide open spaces though I’d like San Jose’s rolling hills over the southwestern’s sparse deserts.

Anyway, we are on our way. We’ve gone 332.5 miles since the last fuel stop (Hartford). Gas here was $62.48 for 16.232 gallons. 20.48 mpg is probably due to Boston traffic (and those horrible drivers and the hideous rotaries). Or was it hideous drivers and horrible rotaries? Hmmm…

Leaving town

May 4, 2012

“I didn’t even see the basement!” said C as we left his parents Hartford, Connecticut house. He’d woken up last night not knowing where he was. I don’t know why when he wakes up disoriented when I’m asleep, I’m supposed to be coherent.

Plus, he had several of those dreams where he found rooms of our house he’d never seen. I suspect the last night’s tour of the attics did that for him.

However, I slept like a baby.

We are heading to Boston now, meeting up with all the rest of the family. But we needed gas even though (because?) the car’s been sitting in the driveway for days.

335 miles since we got gas (Maryland seems so long ago), 14.21 gallons and $59.68. Great gas mileage on the NJ turnpike: 23.6.

On the road again

April 30, 2012

Hey, the light comes on when the car is nearing empty. How did it get so empty when we didn’t drive it in the last few days?

We went 400.4 miles and filled up in Maryland (Laurel). We put in 17.207 gallons. Don’t we have a 20 gallon tank? See it wasn’t that empty. We spent $67.09.

MPG: 23.27

Check out the expression on the tiger’s face.

Oh, and we are going to see the ocean today! The Atlantic!

Gas in Bristol, Virginia

April 27, 2012

We are getting a late start today but it should be a short-ish drive today maybe broken up with fun things.

First thing, we stopped for gas. It has 396.5 miles since our last gas. We put in 16.89 gallons. We got good gas mileage (23.48 mpg). We were going slower and the AC didn’t have to work nearly as hard.

Try our new frozen hot chocolates

April 26, 2012

We used 15.245 gallons going 356 miles. We spent $54.87 refilling. I’d tell you where but I have no idea, somewhere in Tennessee between Memphis and Knoxville.

The oxymoronic frozen hot chocolates were advertised at DQ, across the parking lot. I’m curious but not enough to actually find out.

We are keeping an eye on the weather as severe thunderstorms are forecasted in our path.
